Variation in regional imports
Between the first semester of 2017 and the same period of 2018, the volume imported of yarns and textile supplies registered an increase of 9%, going from 69 thousand tons to 75 thousand tons.

For the period in question, the value imported decreased by 3%, down from $272 million in 2017 to $264 million in 2018.

Imports by country
In the first six months of the year, the main buyer of yarns and textile supplies in Central America was Guatemala, with $96 million, followed by El Salvador, with $94 million, Costa Rica, with $27 million, Nicaragua, with $24 million, Panama, with $12 million and Honduras, with $11 million.

Origin of imports
From January to June 2018, 40% of the value imported from Central America was from the U.S., 20% from China, 3% from Panama Free-Zone and 2% from Mexico.

In the first semester of each of the last six years, China has been the market of origin of imports that has grown the most, since in 2013 represented 11% of the total value purchased by the region, and in 2018 this proportion increased to 20%.
