Tender for Voice and Data Cable Networks

The Banco Popular and the Banco de Desarrollo Comunal in Costa Rica have created a tender for the construction of electricity networks and structured cabling for voice and data.

The contract includes hiring companies that offer design services, labor, materials and equipment for the construction of electricity networks and structured cabling for voice and data in all offices of Banco Popular (consumer demand).

The date for opening bids is scheduled for 14:00 on June 20, 2012.

The Central Bank of Costa Rica has awarded Altus Consulting, Data Tell Tres Mil, SPC Internacional, and Vinet Technology Advisor, two contracts to supply telecommunications equipment.

The company Data Tres Mil de Costa Rica SA won the contract for the best price, of $6,956,678, while the other three bidders won contracts for amounts ranging between $8000 and $65,000.

Nicaragua's Telecommunications Market

From 2009 to date, the local market has grown by 37% to around $700 and $800 million per year, distributed between Claro, Movistar and Yota.

Currently there are 287,618 landlines, 4.8 million cell phone lines and 143,000 Internet connections in the country.

In 2009, Robert Sanson, CEO of Claro Nicaragua said the market turned over about $500 million annually.

Market supervisor Sutel has already approved 32 companies offering Internet, VoIP and business networking services.

Advertising and promotions by the different companies will probably start around the end of 2009.

Additionally, there are 43 more companies pending authorization with Sutel.
