Tender for Parking Meters

The Mayor of Panama is planning to put out to tender this year the modernization of the parking meter system in Panama City.

In order to improve collections from public parking spaces, the Mayor of Panama is looking to replace the existing parking meters with new equipment.

The head of the district capital, Jose Isabel Blandon, told Prensa.com that "... At the moment they are evaluating which technology to be used to ensure collection, therefore it is too premature to talk about costs for the entity."

"... The idea, he said, is not to have to incur expenses for the physical placement of parking meters, since these require maintenance and are at risk of vandalization by criminals and others. "

The Panama City Municipality has invited bids for the supply, transportation and installation of 1,100 parking meters in designated areas.

The scheduled date for submission of bids is October 12, 2012.

July 2012

In July, a tender will be created for the award of construction works and management of underground parking lots underneath various squares in the capital.

The municipality has already identified eleven places where parking lots could be built, including Urraca (Bella Vista), Andrés Bello (Vía Argentina), Plaza Bolívar (San Felipe), Parque Harry Strunz (Calle 50) and Parque Porras (Bella Vista).

By the end of the year, the Mayor of Panama will put out for tender the construction of underground car parks in the capital.

This was announced by the advisor to the Mayor of Panama, Jose Isabel Blandon, who added they expect to have the final designs and plans for the project ready by that date.
