Tender for Energy Announced

Empresa Eléctrica de Guatemala is preparing three tenders for the energy supply, which will be for one, four and fifteen years.

Empresa Eléctrica de Guatemala, S.A. (EEGSA) reported that the first tender it has planned is a one-year contract from May 2019 for the supply of 71 MW.

The second tender will be to supply energy on a four-year basis from May 2020, and the third tender will be for a 15-year term beginning in 2024.

Jorge Alonso, manager of EEGSA explained to Prensalibre.com that "... among the tenders, a medium term one is planned, this would be to cover the expiration of the San Jose contract for four years from May next year. This will allow the open participation of suppliers of any type of generation resources because what we are looking for is price competitiveness."

Alonso added that "... The other tender is planned to be long-term for 15 years, and whose plants must be introduced after the expiration of the previous one (in 2024). For this one, new plants will be asked. What is sought is that with more, the most modern technology allows a more efficient generation and procure better prices."

Guatemala: 200 MW To Be Tendered in June

A call has been made for the purchase of 200-250 MW of power for which a tender will be announced mid-year, as soon as contracts have awarded in the tender for the supply of 100 MW, which is still in process.

Empresa Electrica de Guatemala SA (EEGSA) announced that it is evaluating calling for a long-term contract to hire between 200 and 250 MW of energy for the period 2020 to 2035, according to information given to Diario de Centro America by Carlos Rodas, manager of Planning and Regulation at EEGSA.

Energuate and Egsa will be holding a briefing on the tender for the supply of electricity for the period May 1st 2016 to April 30th 2020.

Empresa Electrica de Guatemala SA (EEGs) wishes to contract out more than 100 MW annually and the volumes that are to correspond to each distributor are variable, said Carlos Rodas, manager of planning to Prensalibre.com.
