Tender for Electricity Transmission Lines in Guatemala

An announcement has been made that the conditions for the tender for 574 kilometers of power lines will be released on July 31.

The work comprises of "... 29 new substations, expansion of 25 new lines and more than 12 adaptations, establishing 574 kilometers of electricity transmission, divided into 5 lots covering the national territory."

S21.com.gt reports that "... the focus will be in areas where electricity coverage is still low, such as in Alta and Baja Verapaz."

According to the Ministry of Energy and Mines of Guatemala, with this project they expect to cover "... over 90% of the national electricity supply, through the extension of coverage of the transmission from the National Interconnected System (SNI)."

As previously announced on July 15, the Ministry of Energy and Mines in Guatemala has convened a formal tender to expand electricity coverage of the country through ".... the installation of 29 new substations, expansion of 22 existing ones and the adaptation of 51 kilometers of line."

Colombian Companies Interested in Electrical Interconnection

April 2013

The project has resurfaced with the interest shown by Empresa de Energia de Bogota and Celsia, two Colombian companies.

"The first to express their intentions was the Empresa de Energía de Bogotá (EEB), after the president, Ricardo Martinelli, announced on March 13 that Panama would not continue with the work, which would represent an investment of 500 million dollars" , reported Prensa.com.
