Tender for Construction of Highway Postponed

In Guatemala, the presentation of bids in the tender for the renovation and operation of the Escuintla-Puerto Quetzal highway, with toll collection, has been postponed until April 5.

The National Agency of Partnerships for the Development of Economic Infrastructure announced that " ... following a consultation and clarification process for the tender event ... it was decided that the deadline for receiving bids needed to be extended, a modification which has been established in Addendum number 1 to the Bidding Terms."

The Project includes "... the 2 stretches of highway that make up the Escuintla-Puerto Quetzal road on the Central American route identified as CA-9 South 'A', complementary works and other infrastructure to raise it to the level of the highway, as well as the administration, management, maintenance and operation of the Project, which guarantees the services of trafficability to the required quality, reliability, continuity and safety standards."

With respect to the contract obligations, the winner must " ... carry out as a minimum all of the activities and works described in the Bidding Terms, Contract and its annexes, considering the recovery of the investment and the costs assumed through the collection of tolls and other permitted revenues. The location of the Project starts from kilometer 60.9 and concludes at kilometer 102.1 of CA-9 South A and its interconnection with the CA-9 South route."

Approval for Highway Concession

August 2019

After months without progress being reported in the process, the Communications Commission of the Guatemalan Congress issued a favorable opinion to the bill to rehabilitate and operate the Escuintla-Puerto Quetzal Highway.

The procedure has been delayed by several months, as the dossier was submitted from 5 October 2018 and only on 6 August received a positive opinion from the Committee on Communications, Transport and Public Works.

Highway Concession Confirmed

In Guatemala, confirmation has been given of the award of a contract to renovate and manage the Escuintla-Puerto Quetzal highway with tolls, to the Consortium Autopistas de Guatemala.

In a meeting held on August 6, the National Council of Partnerships for the Development of Economic Infrastructure (Conadie), unanimously decided to approve the actions of the Evaluation Commission that decided to award the Consortium Autopistas de Guatemala the contract for the renovation and administration of the road section.

Construction and Management of Highway Awarded

July 2018

In Guatemala, the Consortium Autopistas de Guatemala was awarded a contract for the renovation and management of the Escuintla-Puerto Quetzal highway, with toll collection.

In this concession for the administration of the highway, the companies which had been pre-qualified and which submitted their proposals were Consorcio Autopistas de Guatemala, Mota-Engil Latin America and Anas International Enterprise.
