Guatemalan Company Expands in the Caribbean

The Guatemalan company Tecnifibras, Inc. producing polypropylene bags, opened a production plant in June in the Dominican Republic.

Tecnifibras, Inc. in reaction to the constraints imposed by the Dominican Republic on imports of polypropylene sacks in 2009, decided to open a plant from which it not only supplies the local market but also exports to Jamaica, Puerto Rico and Trinidad and Tobago.

Regional integration for the purchase of medications

January 2009

A project for the joint purchase of medications was presented at the XXIV Meeting of the Health Sectors from Central America and the Dominican Republic.

Proceso Digital reports: "The Honduran Minister of Health, Carlos Aguilar, said that he believes that in the short term they will find a "legal and administrative mechanism that will allow for said purchase" because, he acknowledged, "there are countries that have different legislation" make it hard to have a regional consensus."
