Tender for $189 Million in Radiological Equipment

Panama's Social Security seeks to expand and decentralize diagnostic offerings by providing 62 hospitals with radiological equipment and technological system for a complete teleradiology service.

"The Panamanian government seeks the radiological renovation of the country, therefore, tenders radiological equipment to primary care units.

With this equipment, there will be the capacity for early detection of pathologies that can be attended and treated in a timely manner.

The aim of this is to decentralize the diagnostic offer, by providing the national health system with radiological equipment and technological updating with diagnostic quality.

Therefore, the government seeks to provide 62 executing units of the Social Security Fund with an integral technological system that allows the complete management of all Teleradiology processes including: updated diagnostic imaging equipment, supplies, maintenance and a state-of-the-art technological tool for the processing and management of images and diagnoses.

Having a RIS/PACS/MIMPS system for the management of diagnostic imaging to have the most efficient flow of patient diagnosis and digital storage of DICOM medical images and for the transmission of these to dedicated viewing stations, or between these through a computer network of the Social Security Fund.

In summary, the aim is to supply, install and put into operation 271 high-impact radiological equipment for the expansion of the diagnostic offer of 62 executing units that have medical radiology services.

The tender for teleradiology services in Panama has been declared void by the Social Security Department, who rejected the proposals submitted by Cable Onda and C & W-Promed.

"In the tender for greatest amount, which has a reference price of $88 million, and a five-year contract, proposals were submitted by C & W-Promed for $105,595,132 and Cable Onda for $105,599,999", reported Prensa.com.
