Tender: GPS Equipment

The Public Ministry of Guatemala is putting out to tender the supply of 100 pieces of portable equipment for global positioning systems.

Guatemala Government Purchase 7128436:

"Minimum technical specifications:

- The portable global positioning system must be for use in urban and rural areas, able to work in climatic conditions of humidity, heat and rain.  
- Material: resistant to impacts, dust and water. 
- Design: of dimensions and weight that allow it to be used in a portable way.  Power mode through long-lasting batteries (preferably 2AA or rechargeable), transflective screen that can be read in sunlight and in low light conditions.  High sensitivity receiver for fast and efficient localization.  It must include storage and transport case. 
- Measurement of localization in degrees or UTM system. 
- NM distance measurement, for height calculation. 
- Minimum memory of 3.5GB (with option to add removable memory card), for storage of routes and GPS points. 

The deadline for receipt of bids is February 12, 2018

According to the trading account, insecurity is one of the main factors driving the Salvadorans to purchase these devices which can be used for quickly locating a vehicle in case of theft.

Panama Develops Tourist GPS Project

September 2010

The Panamanian Tourism Authority is working on a system dubbed “Touristic GPS”.

Tourists will be able to rent GPS devices at Tocumen International Airport, which will assist them in reaching Panama’s touristic destinations.

This initiative also comprises completing the country’s road sign infrastructure, currently at an inadequate state, recognized Salomón Samah, head of the authority, who assured that the entire country will boast proper road signs within two years.
