Tender: Consultancy for Rail Transport

A tender is being launched for field works for the validation of the study of "Road interconnection and urban rail passenger transport north-south axis in Guatemala City."

Guatemala Government Purchase 6988660:

"The objectives of the consultancy required are the following: 

- Prepare a work plan and a specific methodology for the preparation of the field work requested.  
- Develop and validate the surveys with technical teams from the ANADIE, FEGUA and the Municipality of Guatemala. 
- Carry out the Origin - Destiny Surveys (EOD) according to the zoning and sample defined for each one of them.  
- Carry out the Declared Preference Surveys (EPD) at station points or in defined strategic places, according to the defined sample.  
- Tabulation and representation of the information derived from the Surveys.  
- Expand the sample of the Surveys through defined statistical methods, and according to the observed characteristics."

The deadline for receipt of bids is January 5, 2018.

Guatemala: City Rail Proposal Revisited

Three years after the first attempt, the government has announced that the railway project estimated at $200 million will be tendered in 2017 under a public-private partnership scheme.

In 2013 the National Agency for Partnerships for Economic Infrastructure Development (ANADIE) had tried to tender the design and construction of an urban passenger train and a railway terminal, however, it never materialized. Now the government of President Jimmy Morales has taken up the project under the same scheme of a public-private partnership, only evaluating the work at $200 million and not $350 million as projected previously. Diario de Centroamerica reported that the initiative will be presented to Congress.

Guatemala - Mexico Railway Interconnection

March 2016

Although the start date had been was agreed as December 2015, it has now been announced that construction of the roads that connect will Tecun Uman with Chiapas, Mexico, will start in April.

In October 2015 the company Ferrovías announced that on December 15 it would start the interconnection with the Mexican Railway Company Chiapas-Mayab, with the aim of "... activating that line so that in the next five years several sections in the country can be extended with profits generated from this first phase. "

Costa Rica Seeks Railway Suppliers

January 2015

The Costa Rican Institute of Railways has announced that it is analyzing the purchase of machinery from abroad in order to set up an electric railway system in the capital.

Although an amount for investment in the purchase of electric trains has not yet been established, nor are there any feasibility studies to justify it, the Instituto Costarricense de Ferrocarriles (Incofer) is looking for offers from abroad, especially in Europe and China.

Elmundo.com.sv reports that "The Autonomous Executive Port Commission (CEPA) has signed an agreement with the Spanish company Tramrail to conduct the studies for feasibility, and social, economic and environmental impact for a rail system.
