Support plan for small business launched in Nicaragua

The program was launch by the Association of Producer and Exporters (Apen), the organism which won the international contest by the EU for the internationalization of Small Businesses and for which they will received $1.5 million in financing.

Enrique Zamora, president of Apen, explained that they participated in the contest along with financial development company from Mexico and all the chambers from Central America.

The total amount for the region is $14 million for the benefit of 2,180 small and medium companies in the area. 200 of these are from Nicaragua, which will be administered locally by Apen.

He added that the small business sectors in Nicaragua that will benefit from the program: food, arts and craft, decoration and gifts, tourism, information technology, the environment, energy, and sustainable, in addition to services and infrastructure.

USAID Impacts Nicaraguan SMEs

Its predicted that a thousand jobs will be created by the Businesses and Employment Program of U.S. Agency for International Development in 2013 from the support provided to small and medium businesses in Nicaragua.

Danilo Cruz de Paula, said that since 2009 4,700 have been created in small and medium enterprises (SMEs) with financial support equivalent to $20 million, contributing to increased sales and exports equivalent to $24.4 million.

Credit access project for Panamanian Micro, Small and Medium sized businesses

The project seeks to establish mechanisms to collect credit information and evaluations in order to facilitate access to financing for small and medium businesses.

The project, which will be development over 40 months, includes an investment of $1.7 million dollars, of which 69% will be provided by the IDB's Multilateral Investment Fund; the remaining 31% will be provided by the Panama Credit Association (APC).
