Study on Consumer Protection at Global Level

Missing or false information encourages consumers who are defrauded, to be mislead, especially with regards to vacation plans.

Reports have been made of huge losses worldwide due to scams related to vacation plans due to lack of tourist information and false advertising.

More than 42 consumer protection agents in Africa, Asia, America, Europe and Oceania will meet at the Forum entitled 'Improving Consumer Protection in a Global Economy', which is taking place in Panama until October 11.

There they will analyze scams or situations that affect consumers and possible solutions to avoid deception in all-inclusive packages, timeshares, 5 star hotels and deals with car rentals included.

According to Pedro Meilan, administrator of the Authority for Consumer Protection and Competition (ACODECO), "the aim of the meeting is to have greater integration and participation of the countries with Latin American regional agencies, to join the largest network for consumer protection in the world ... ", reported Elsiglo.com.

Panama to host competition forums

Panama is preparing to host the Latin American and Ibero-American competition forums.

The forums, which are to be coordinated by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), are to be held from September 10 through 12, said Pedro Meilán, who heads Panama's watchdog on competition and consumer affairs.
