Wednesday, July 24, 2019

The Monthly Manufacturing Activity Index (IMAM) of the Association of Industries of the Dominican Republic (AIRD) fell from 58.3 in May to 53 in June. Out of the five variables composing the index, the two with the highest weight experienced a decrease with respect to the previous month, explains a guild report.

The report explains that "... The variables examined were weighted and adjusted for seasonality. Two of the five variables showed decreases: "sales volume" went from 63.4 in May to 53.0 in June 2019; "production volume" went from 64.9 in May to 55.0 in June of this year.

When adjusted and weighted, the "employment" variables increased from 50.4 in May to 50.9 in June 2019.  "Inventory of raw materials" went from 46.5 in May to 47.3 in June 2019, and "supply delivery term" went from 48.4 in May to 55.7 in June 2019.

When IMAM remains above the 50-point threshold, it reflects that the economic conditions and outlook for the manufacturing sector remain positive.
