Strong Colombian Investments in Panama

There are $1.7 billion in Colombian investments in the country, mainly in construction, tourism and food.

According to a report issued by the Embassy of Colombia in Panama, published in, Colombian businessmen have invested $519 million in construction, $100 million in tourism, $62 million in the food sector, $50 million in hydrocarbons and $40 million in trade.

Journalist Cindy Calderón wrote: "Where the influx of Colombian tourists to Panama is concerned, about 129,418 came through Tocumen Airport last year. Figures revealed that between December 2008 and February this year, 29% of the 20,500 passengers who traveled on the Enchantment of the Seas cruise ship were tourists from the neighboring country to the south."

Colombian investments in the country are at around 2 million dollars, while trade between both nations grew 67% in 2007, Suarez indicated in reference to the growing links between both countries.
