La Prensa states on its website, "Until the agency issues an opinion, three international business groups, the other two remaining in the contest are Metrop and Typsa, will be waiting for a contract worth about $ 30 million."

Contract to Build Panamanian Metro Signed

The Panama Metro Department and Consorcio Línea 1 signed last Friday the contract for the construction of Metro Line 1.

The project will stretch 13.6 kilometers and will be built from Los Andes, San Miguelito district, to the Albrook bus terminal, so the president made a special request to Panamanians in order for them to have patience with the changes which will happen as a consequence of the Metro works.

The Spanish consortium was awarded the bid to manage the Panamanian Metro.

The financial offer made for $ 27.9 million was the lowest received, and the proposal was also the one with the highest score.

"The consortium consists of engineering Ayesa (48%) of Spanish origin, the Venezuelan engineering Inelectra (32%) and TMB, the entity which manages Barcelona's transportation systems (20%)," wrote Roberto Gonzalez on his article in Prensa.com.

The public acquisitions directorate judged that GMP's attempts to demonstrate its experience were not detailed enough and that the content was largely superficial. In doing so it supported the evaluating committee's decision to disqualify the consortium.

A total of five consortiums have submitted proposals to manage and provide technical support for the construction and operation of the Panama Metro.

The lowest price offered came from Barcelona's Metropolitan Transport consortium - Aguas y Estructuras S.A, at $27.97 million.
