Variation of imports
Between the first half of 2017 and the same period in 2018, the value imported into the region increased 2%, from $515 million to $525 million.

Imports by country
In the first half of the year, the largest buyer of iron and steel sheets in Central America was Honduras, with $111 million, followed by Costa Rica, with $110 million, Guatemala, with $100 million, El Salvador, with $74 million, Panama, with $58 million and Nicaragua, with $41 million.

Origin of imports 
From January to June 2018, 53% of the value purchased by Central America was from China, 19% from Japan, 3% from Mexico and 2% from South Korea.

During the semester concerned of the last seven years, China was the origin market for imports that grew the most, as in 2012 represented 18% of total purchases and in 2018 this proportion rose to 53%.
