In October of last year, the airline Iberia announced that as of October 2018, it would start operating three weekly flights between Managua and Madrid, one-way with a stopover in Guatemala and fly direct on the return journey.

Elnuevodiario.com.ni reports that "..."In the coming months Iberia will closely monitor the evolution of reservation" from Madrid to Managua and from Managua to Madrid "in order to address the direct operation when demand allows and when this could be sustainable over time," said the airline of the IAG group."
