Specialized Manufacturing Plant Expanded

With a $15 million investment, the US company Microtechnologies has expanded its specialized device production plant located in Coyol de Alajuela, Costa Rica.

The company specializes in the design and manufacture of critical miniature components that change the market through its use in platforms such as engine management systems, invasive surgical devices and safety controls for occupants. 

From a statement issued by the Costa Rican Coalition of Development Initiatives:

San José, February 16, 2018. The American company Microtechnologies - specialized in innovating and developing specialized components for global industries - today inaugurated its new production plant in Terra Industrial park, in el Coyol in Alajuela.

The new facilities - of 15,000 square meters - mark the celebration of the company's 20th anniversary in the country and represent a milestone of innovation within the manufacturing sector.  Its construction and refurbishment required an investment of US $15 million and will generate 250 new jobs in the high-tech sector over the next five years.

An announcement has been made that the company Apollo Endosurgery is to set up a 1750 meter device manufacturing plant in the Coyol area in the province of Alajuela.

From a statement issued by the Costa Rican Coalition for Development Initiatives (CINDE):

Apollo Endosurgery, Inc., a US medical device company, today announced that it has chosen Costa Rica as a site to install its new manufacturing plant in Coyol, Alajuela, where it will develop a variety of products including LAP-BAND® System - the only device approved by the FDA for weight reduction in people with at least one health problem related to obesity and who have a Body Mass Index of 30 or more.

The Microtechnologies firm will be moving its operation in the country to a new 9,500 square meter plant which will be built in Coyol, province of Alajuela.

The new plant will be built by the manufacturer of medical devices operating under the free zone regime and will house all of the staff currently working at facilities which the company operates in another free zone.
