Regional business upwards
Between the first six months of 2017 and the same period in 2018, the value of imported soybean oil solid waste in Central America increased 34%, from $213 million to $285 million.

For the periods concerned, the volume imported increased 26%, from 536 thousand tons to 673 thousand tons.

Guatemalan companies, main importers
From January to June 2018, the main buyer of solid waste soybean oil in Central America was Guatemala, with $90 million, followed by Honduras, with $56 million, El Salvador, with $46 million, Panama, with $44 million, Nicaragua, with $28 million and Costa Rica, with $22 million.

Price of imports
Between January 2012 and June 2018, the average price per kilo of imports of solid waste soybean oil in the countries of the region ranged from $0.62 to $0.37.

But from March 2016 to June 2018 the average price per kilo increased 24%, from $0.37 to $0.46.

Origin of imports
In the first half of recent years, almost all regional imports are from the USA.

In 2016 Central America purchased 1.2 million tons of solid soybean waste, 10% more than in 2015, and the vast majority came from the US.
