Salvadoran Companies, Main Buyers
By 2021, the main importer of soups and their preparations in Central America was El Salvador with $30 million, followed by Guatemala with $22 million, Nicaragua with $18 million, Honduras with $17 million, Panama with $12 million and Costa Rica with $11 million.

For the period in question, Panamanian imports increased 32% year-on-year, Costa Rican imports 15%, Honduran imports 13%, Guatemalan imports 12%, Nicaragua 11% and El Salvador 5%.

Main Suppliers to the Central American Market
In 2021, 37.36% of the value imported from Central America came from Guatemala, 31.50% from the USA, 16.49% from Mexico, 5.70% from El Salvador and 2.91% from China.

In the period in question in recent years, regional purchases from Mexican companies have gained ground, since in 2012 they represented 11.73% of total imports and in December 2021 this proportion rose to 16.49%.

Between 2020 and 2021 the imported value of soups and their preparations recorded an increase of 17.68%, going from $55.5 million to $65.3 million.

Diapers: Regional Purchases Increase

During the third quarter, the Central American region purchased $255 million worth of diapers, mainly from Mexico, which captured 47% of the market, with Guatemala being the main importer with $70 million.
