The plant is called "Solar Park Miravalles" and is located in La Fortuna de Bagaces, Guanacaste.
It contains 4,300 photovoltaic panels of 235 watts each, and was funded with a grant of $9 million from the Government of Japan.
"The installed capacity of this plant in Bagaces is 1 megawatt, which representing electrical supply for about 800 homes. However, it is expected to reach up to 1.2 megawatt hours a year.
Besides its use as an energy source, the park is also expected to become an attraction for tourism in this part of the country ..., reports Nacion.com.
On a 98-hectare site in the province of Chiriquí, InterEnergy launched a solar park with a generating capacity of 40 MW, which required a $48 million investment.
The new power generation park, called Ikakos, will transport the electricity produced to the Mata de Nance substation through a 13.7-kilometre-long transmission line.
Having already signed a contract to supply power to an electricity distributor, an announcement has been made of the construction of a 10MW photovoltaic generator.
Elsalvador.com reports that "U.S. firms Perfect Energy and Solar Horizon, along with a Salvadoran investor have joined their capital and announced the creation of the company SolEnergy Farms, which plans to begin construction of a photovoltaic plant in January 2014, according Marwan Zakhem said its president. Consequently, the company has already signed a contract with the distributor DelSur to sell the first 10 megawatts (MW) of generation of this plant, which is to be located in the municipality of Tecoluco , department of San Vicente."
A two-year plan aims to implement solar energy projects for 50 megawatts, which could reach up to 300 MW.
The announcement was made by the Honduran Association of Renewable Energy Producers (AHPER). According to Carolina Castillo, president of the organization, hydro power is so far the most developed in the country, compared to other renewable energy sources.
The number includes the total investment for the electricity sector between 2010 and 2015.
The $ 4,377 million represents 22.5% of the gross domestic product (GDP) in 2009.
"The bulk will be hydro generation with $ 2.655 million with a contribution to the electrical grid of about 841 megawatts, half the country's current installed capacity," published Prensa.com.
