Slight Improvement in Hiring Expectations

After 12% of companies in Guatemala reported in the first quarter of 2020 that they planned to increase their payrolls, by the second quarter this proportion had risen by only 1%.

Employers in Guatemala report positive hiring plans for the second quarter of 2020. 13% of employers have contemplated an increase in their payrolls, 2% expect a decrease and 83% will remain unchanged, reported Manpower.

The report states that "... Employers anticipate an increase in their workforces in the five regions during the next quarter. The strongest labor market is expected in the Center, where the Net Employment Trend is +13%. A slight increase in hiring plans is anticipated in the East and South, where Trends are +6%, while limited hiring activity is expected in two regions, North and West, with Trends of +2%.

Employment growth is expected in all six sectors over the next quarter. The strongest hiring plans are reported by the Construction sector, where the Net Employment Trend remains at +13%. Stable hiring is also expected in Agriculture, Fishing, Mining & Extraction, with +12% Trend, and in Manufacturing and Communications & Transport sectors with +11% Trend.

An increase in the workforce is expected in all four company sizes by the second quarter of 2020. Large companies forecast the strongest market, reporting a Net Employment Trend of +26%. In Medium-sized companies, employers expect an increase in their workforce with a +12% Trend, while Small companies report a +6% Trend and Micro-companies one of +3%
