Services and Industry Boost Economic Activity

In Guatemala, the Economic Activity Index registered year-on-year growth of 3.1% in June, explained in part by the variations of Private Services and Manufacturing Industries.

According to the report of the Banco de Guatemala the economic activity measured by the estimation of the IMAE, reported a deceleration in June 2019, since it registered a 3.1% growth rate, increase that is lower to the variation of 3.5% reported in May of this year.

The document explains that "... This behavior was influenced by the positive result experienced, mainly, by the following economic activities: Private services; Manufacturing industries; Wholesale and retail trade; Transport, storage and communications.

The trend-cycle series registered a 3.2% year-on-year growth rate, less dynamic than that observed in the same month of the previous year.

In August, the IMAE in Guatemala registered a 3.7% year-on-year variation, influenced by wholesale and retail trade activities, and private services.

According to the report of the Banco de Guatemala, the economic activity measured by the estimation of the IMAE, reported a slight acceleration in July 2019, since it registered a 3.2% growth rate, higher than the variation of 3.1% reported in June of this year.

Transport and Services Boost Economic Activity

September 2018

Influenced in part by the performance of the transportation and services sectors, economic activity in Guatemala reported a year-on-year growth of 3.4% in July.

The behavior in the seventh month of the year was influenced by growth shown by the following economic activities: Transportation, storage and communications, Wholesale and retail trade, Private services and the Manufacturing industries.

Guatemala: Economic Activity Up 2.8%

December 2017

Transport, storage and communications explained most of the variation in the economic activity index in October, which registered a 2.8% increase compared to the same month in 2016.
