Representatives from the Salvadoran Chamber of Small and Medium Agricultural Producers (Campo) said that due to the drought, which lasted up to 40 days in some areas of the country, they have lost more than 6 million hundredweight of corn, valued at $38.6 million.

Regarding the losses registered in the production of basic grain, Orestes Ortez, Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, explained to Elmundo.sv that in " ... the dry period affected an area of 82,540 manzanas cultivated with corn, of which 32,930 reported total losses, and 49,610 showed partial damage. The drought affected 80,000 producers, 2,678 farmers more than the 77,322 reported in the first evaluation made by the institution."

Sugarcane is one of the crops that is also facing difficulties in other countries in the region. This week in Nicaragua representatives from the union of the agricultural sector reported that for this year the harvest will experience a reduction of about 30,000 to 40,000 tons of sugar. In this case, the reduction in production is attributed to climatic factors and the invasion of lands as a result of the political crisis occurring in the country.
