Seafood: $69 million in Exports to Mexico

In 2017, the value of Central American sales of fish, molluscs and crustaceans to companies in Mexico amounted to $69 million, 19% more than was exported in 2016.

Variation of regional exports  
Between 2016 and 2017 the value sold from the region to Mexico grew by 19%, going from $58 million to $69 million. 

The export volume increased by 39%, going from 8,319 tons in 2016 to 11,544 tons in 2017. 

Exports by country 
In 2017, the main exporter of fish, molluscs and crustaceans from Central America to Mexico was Honduras, with $34 million, followed by Guatemala, with $18 million, Nicaragua, with $14 million, Panama, with $3 million and Costa Rica with $300 thousand. 

Price of exports 
Between January 2012 and December 2013, the average price of kilo of Central American exports rose by 432%, increasing from $2.55 to $13.57. 

The trend was reversed from January 2014 to December 2017, as the average price per imported kilo fell from $7.17 to $6.51.
