Laprensa.com.ni explains that "...The expansion was agreed at a meeting between the delegations of the two diplomatic allies, headed by the general director of the BOFT, Yang Jenni, on the Taiwanese side, and his Nicaraguan counterpart, Cristian Martinez, held on Thursday."
According to the new agreement, "...Nicaragua will be able to export up to 60,000 metric tons of sugar a year, and no fees will have to be paid for the waste products from Nicaraguan cattle exported to the island."
The Nicaraguan Taiwanese Business Chamber has signed an agreement with the Central American Trade Office in Taiwan to promote trade.
Prensalibre.com reports that "the agreement seeks to contribute to the promotion of the benefits of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the two parties and provide a platform for continued cooperation on trade and investment."
Opportunities exist every day for Nicaraguan exporters, provided that they make progress in the industrialization and productivity of their products.
"Nicaragua has captivated the Taiwanese taste for the sweetness of its sugar, the softness of its meat, the freshness of its seafood, and the smell and taste of its coffee, there is a good reference for Nicaraguan companies committed to exporting quality products", said the ambassador of Taiwan in this country, Anita Huang Shu-O, in an interview with El Nuevo Diario within the framework of the five years of the term of the Free Trade Agreement.
Although since signing the free trade agreement, exports to China have grown by 36%, analysts believe it is possible to get more out of the agreement.
Since early 2008, Nicaraguan exports to Taiwan have continued to grow. In just three years, they have sold products worth $68 million as a result of the agreement between the two countries.
