A presentation has been made of the first report on the "State of Science, Technology and Innovation in Costa Rica."
From a press release issued by the State of the Nation:
The First Report on the State of Science, Technology and Innovation aims to lay the foundation for monitoring scientific and technological work in Costa Rica from the point of view of human development. It aims to give the central role that science and technology plays for the country's future more visible and provide information which will support decision-making in this field.
Publication of this report is the first step towards establishing a platform for data and studies which will allow regular monitoring of national capacities in STI (Science, Technology, and Innovation), as well as contributing to strengthening the capacity for analysis and evaluation of public policy. This platform will be constructed gradually and fed by unedited research, and new information. These types of investigation reveal that the emerging picture is that of a country in need, it knows how and is able to do more in STI, but in practice, it does less than is required for development.
