Salvadoran tourism sector prepares to face the crisis

The Minister of Tourism will launch two publicity campaigns to promote tourism locally, regionally and in the US.

The publicity campaign's slogan will be "be a tourist in your own land" for the Salvadoran market and for the regional and American market there will be another campaign called "Elements".

Ruben Rochi explained that despite being a campaign that will be carried out in December it will have a investment of $200 million. "The objective is to support tourism" and to help end the year with the best possible results, he said.

The government expects revenues for domestic tourism this year to reach $214 million, up 12% from the figure for 2016.

The Ministry of Tourism plans to close the year with a 5% increase in the number of recreational trips made by Salvadorans to destinations within the national territory.  

Nicaragua: Domestic Tourism Rebounds

The increase was over 20%, with beaches and mountains being the most popular destinations for Nicaraguans.

During Easter Week 2.3 million Nicaraguans vacationed in their country, more than half a million more than a year ago.

An increase in the flow of foreign tourists was also noted, up by 27% over the same period in 2010.

Guatemala Launches Tourism Promotion Campaign

The Guatemalan Tourism Institute has launched its “Chapín, orgulloso anfitrión” ("Guatemala, proud host") campaign to promote local tourism.

The campaign, to be developed through September, comprises a series of activities with the aim of encouraging Guatemalans to appreciate what the country has to offer in respect of natural wealth, regional customs and traditions.

The campaign “Go on Vacation Without Leaving Your Country” showcases 23 different destinations.

The package offers are diverse in terms of days and they include discounts on food and lodging.

Rosa María Bolaños wrote in Prensalibre.com: "Travel timeframes vary. For a one day trip, San José Pinula, Naciones Unidas Park, Monterrico, Sipacate and San José beaches, volcanoes in Pacaya and Ipala, Lake Atitlán, as well as ecological and archaeological sites are promoted."
