Salvadoran Pork Producers to Export to the US

Nearly $5 million will be invested in two slaughterhouses which could export pork to the US later this year.

The slaughterhouse at the National School of Agriculture will receive an investment of $800,000 to comply with international health regulations. It will slaughter approximately 100 pigs daily and may start exporting in the last quarter of the year.

The article in La Prensa Gráfica gave some details about the other slaughterhouse which will get a $4 million investment and “could handle around 500 pigs daily.” It would be managed by the Salvadoran Association of Pork Producers.

Guatemala Set to Resume Pork Exports to El Salvador

Guatemalan pig breeders are awaiting permission from the Salvadoran Government to resume exports on February.

They expect to ship the equivalent of 500 animals each week.

Marco Tulio Figueroa, president of Apogua, the Guatemalan Pig Breeders Association, told that “in our industrialized farms, we produce 22 piglets for each one of our 25.000 female pigs; this translates to 550.000 thousand a year and 45.833 per month”.
