Travel Agents Sales Down 40% in El Salvador

The drop in air tickets sales was 40% in February and 25% in January.

elsalvador.com publishes: "The operation of local Travel Agents has been affected by the economic crisis, in the same way as local and international airlines. 'We are all experiencing it (the sector) and if (ticket) sales drops, so does ours, its the way it works', assured Javier Ortiz, president of AVA and director of Corporación Turística El Amate.
A similar opinion was exposed by Carlos Vidal, Director of travel agent U Travel, who confirmed the drop in ticket sales, and, with it, the sales of touristic packages".

El Salvador: Companies Sell 25% Less

In the first 11 months of the year, Salvadoran companies sold 24.57% less in average.

9 out of each 10 businessmen were affected by the economic crisis, according to a study conducted by Luis Membreño, independent economist.

Sales of Goods Fall in Guatemala

From January to August 2009, sales of goods dropped 5.8% when compared to the same period of 2008.

Data from the Tax Authority (SAT) shows that with the exception of January and April, monthly data has been always negative.

The Guatemalan Agency started operations in the country under the "Tivoli Proviajes" brand, within their regional expansion plan.

Renato Méndez, Marketing Director at Viajes Tívoli was quoted in Elsalvador.com: "besides offering the finest travel services at the lower prices, we also have leading technology, product of our alliance with Amadeus Technologies, the world's most important travel technology company".

Salvadoran Industries Report Lower Sales

Up to and including November, 2008, industry sales fell 36.1% due to lower demand for products.

Jorge Arriaza, executive director of the Salvadoran Association of Industrialists (ASI by its initials in Spanish), told Laprensagrafica.com: "This is shaping up as a difficult year for the sector.
