Road Infrastructure: $2.4 Billion in New Investments

In the first quarter of the year, 21 environmental impact studies were presented for projects of street rehabilitation, construction and expansion of highways in Central American countries.

The interactive platform "Construction in Central America", compiled by the Business Intelligence Unit at CentralAmericaData, includes an up to date list of public and private construction projects for which environmental impact studies (EIA) were submitted to the respective institutions of each country.

Nicaragua is the country that during the first quarter concentrated the largest investment in new projects, with nearly $768 million for the development of 47 works focused on the rehabilitation of road infrastructure and the construction of 5 overpasses.

In Panama 14 EIAs were presented, which together add up to an investment of approximately $730 million. Among the projects, the expansion to six lanes of the Via Panamericana stands out.

Some of the documents presented in Costa Rica include 2 EIAs for the construction of streets and bridges, which represent an investment of close to $643 million. In the case of El Salvador, from January to March a project was processed for the expansion of a road section, which requires a $270 million investment.

Road Projects for $97 million

May 2017

Rehabilitation, expansion and road construction in the provinces of Panama West and Coclé are some of the road projects planned for the coming months in Panama.
