Residential Construction: $2 billion in New Projects

In the first half of 2019, 178 environmental impact studies were presented to develop condominiums, apartment buildings and other housing projects in Central American countries.

The interactive platform "Construction in Central America", compiled by the Business Intelligence Unit at CentralAmericaData, includes an up to date list of public and private construction projects for which environmental impact studies (EIA) were submitted to the respective institutions of each country.

Costa Rica is the country in the region that from January to June of this year concentrated the largest investment, with approximately $995 million in projects of apartment buildings and horizontal residential, corresponding to 63 EIA.

It was followed by Panama, where 56 EIAs were presented, which together add up to an investment of approximately $630 million. Among the projects is the construction of a composite apartment complex that will house 1,620 housing units.

In Guatemala, 46 studies were presented for work on different types of residential projects that total an overall investment of approximately $211 million. The most important development consists of the construction of a complex made up of 412 horizontal houses.

In El Salvador, 10 projects were reported, totaling an estimated investment of $134 million. In the case of Honduras, two projects were registered, with a joint investment amount of $38 million.
