Replacement of Buses in Honduras?

A decree which is pending publication in the official newspaper, changes the subsidy received by transporters, for the creation of a fund from which the money would be obtained to buy new buses.

An article on reports that the National Congress has approved a decree requested by the Executive, which determines that " ...What was previously received as a subsidy by the owners of urban transport units in Honduras, will now become part of a common fund from which the resources will come for the purchase of new units, under a subsidy mechanism with government participation."

" ...According to data from the Ministry of Finance (Sefin), an average of 450 million lempiras per fiscal period has been disbursed in recent years.  However, it is estimated that the fund will increase to more than 500 million now in order to meet the transport fleet's changing needs."

The new regulations cover " ... natural persons or legal entities, cooperative enterprises and associations of businessmen of the category that have concessions for the operation of a public passenger service ... " including " ... the import of new motor vehicles for the exclusive use of public passenger transport in urban, interurban and taxis modalities in Honduras."

Honduras Modernizes Urban Bus Fleet

The project comprises renewing 40% of the country’s buses in three months.

Blas Ramos, from the General Transportation Directorate, also commented they will develop an executive service with security.

“These new units will feature private security. ... This plan will also be executed for taxis, and it foresees renewing the vehicles every 5 years”.

40 Companies Interested in Panamanian Metro Bus

Companies from several countries declared their interest in developing the $270 million public transportation project.

This project will complement the Metro System, and comprises acquiring urban buses for the capital city and San Miguelito. It has attracted companies from Brazil, Colombia, Chile, United States, Germany, Mexico, Argentina, Korea, Russia, Sweden and Panama.
