Renewable Energy Consultants to be Hired

Guatemala plans to put out consulting bids to support programs that incentivize participation in the development of renewable energy sources.

The Department of Energy and Mines has received financing for a total of $500,000 from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) for the acquisition of goods and contracting connected to consultant services regarding the framework for the Social and Environmental Management Support Program for the Promotion of Private Participation in the Development of Renewable Energy Sources in Guatemala.

The main objective of the project is to offer support to the Guatemala government in facilitating the development of tools to encourage private participation in energy projects developed with renewable sources in Guatemala.

Costa Rica: $500 million for Electricity Infrastructure

The financing agreement between the IDB and the government provides funds to complete the geothermal plants Pailas II and Borinquen I and II of 55 MW each, and other electrical infrastructure.  

From a statement issued by the Ministry of Finance:

Authorities at the Ministry of Finance, the Costa Rican Electricity Institute (ICE) and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) signed a cooperation agreement to finance investment projects CR-X1014 for an amount up to $500 million.

Honduras Readies New Renewable Energy Bidding

Honduras’ state energy company (ENEE) is preparing a new public bidding process for renewable energy generation.

Currently, the country produces 70% of its energy through thermal generation plants (fuel burning). Only 30% comes from renewable sources. ENEE hopes to reverse these percentages in the short term.
