Registration for Electronic Billing Regime

Starting next month, companies and individual taxpayers in Guatemala will be able to enroll in the online electronic billing system, which for the moment is not mandatory.

Wednesday, September 19, 2018

This year the Superintendency of Tax Administration (SAT), created an agreement which makes available to all taxpayers the ability to issue of Electronic Tax Documents (DTE) such as invoices, debit and credit notes, receipts and other documents authorized by the institution.

Prensalibre.com reports that "... Some companies and individual taxpayers already issue electronic receipts. Since 2012 a system has existed known as FACE, which, as of August 31, has been in use by 18,670 taxpayers. The FACE is still open for new registrations; However, the objective is to adhere to the new FEL regime, due to the ease and advantages it offers, explains the SAT. Those who are currently in the previous regime may continue using it until the tax administration informs them that they must migrate to the new one or they can do so voluntarily."

In relation to the migration to the new system, Óscar Chile Monroy, of the MGI Chile Monroy auditing firm, said that " ...Extending electronic invoice can represent several benefits; for example, taxpayers who have a high emission of those documents can file them in this electronic system, instead of a paper file. For taxpayers who provide services or make sales through the internet and charge by credit card or bank transfer, this type of billing is 'formidable'. "

Regarding small taxpayers, Chile Monroy explains that they are not interested in electronic invoices and they decide to continue using printed ones. However, those who are registered in the SAT because they provide passenger transport services (taxis) and the company that provides the platform require them to provide an electronic receipt.
