Regional Conference Zones

From November 4th to 6th a conference will be held in Managua attended by users of free zones, industrial parks and representatives from customs, exporters and freight forwarders in the region.

Association of Free Zones:

The XIX Conference of Free Zones of the Americas will take place on 4 to 6 of November in Managua, Nicaragua.

The event is being organized by the National Commission of Free Zones of Nicaragua and ProNicaragua at the Hilton Hotel.

The conference will address topics such as the Free Zones growth factor for companies, trends in diversification of industries, motivations for companies to invest in free zones, innovation and technology, the Grand Canal of Nicaragua and the effects of the Securities Value Chains in the FTZs. It will feature more than 15 world-class lecturers and will be attended by over 400 entrepreneurs from across Latin America and the world.

$36 million Investment in Industrial Park

Plans are underway to build, in San Rafael de Alajuela, Costa Rica, a 109 thousand square meter industrial park with offices and warehouses, which will operate under the free zone regime.

At the end of November 2017, Piasa Consultores submitted an Environmental Impact Study (EIA) to build an office and warehouse park within the Industrial Zone of the Regulatory Plan of the Municipality of Alaljuela. The project is called "Parque Industrial 506", and will be located in San Rafael de Alajuela. 

More Industrial Parks Planned in Costa Rica

Four developments are in process of obtaining official and environmental permits, and could begin construction in mid-2014 or early 2015.

Elfinancierocr.com reports: "One will be called Green Park and will be located in San Jose, Alajuela, another will be named Tech Park and will be in the district of Ulloa de Heredia, a third will operate as Life Free Zone & Business Park in El Coyol in Alejuela, and a fourth, called Lindora Park business park, will be located in Pozos de Santa Ana ".

Promotion of Free Zones in Panama

The Panamanian government has organized an event to promote and share experiences among free trade zones in the country.


In order to promote the national and international advances the country has made by implementing and using the free zone regime, the government has opened the first forum on the subject, called "The Present and Future of Free Zones."

Costa Rica's Free Zones require definition of the system

There is concern about the incentives to be received after 2015 when benefits expire according to World Commerce Organization provisions.

The Government wants to ensure these conditions through a reform of the free zone law aimed at attracting investment.

However, its early yet and the possibility of taking it to Congress for a vote seems far off.
