Figures from Central Agricultural Monitor, prepared by the Business Intelligence unit at CentralAmericaData.com reveal that Central American banana exports have shown a slight downward trend so far this year, compared to the same period in 2014.

Between January and September 2015 the region exported 3,973,129 metric tons of bananas, equivalent to $1,618,000. This amount is less than the 4,035,424 TM sold abroad in the same period in 2014, which generated revenues of $1,646 million.

Guatemala remains the largest exporter of bananas in the region, with 1,903,063 TM sold abroad in the period in question, followed by Costa Rica with 1,450,860 MT, Honduras, with 471,265 MT, Panama, with 135,625 MT , Nicaragua, with 10,753 MT, and El Salvador, with 1,563 MT.
