Refrigerators: Imports up to I Quarter of 2018

In the first three months of the year, Central American countries imported $92 million worth of refrigerators and freezers, and 45% was purchased by companies in Guatemala and Costa Rica.

Imports by country 
From January to March 2018 the main buyer of refrigerators and freezers in Central America was Guatemala, with $22 million, followed by Costa Rica, with $19 million, Honduras, with $17 million, Panama, with $14 million, El Salvador, with $11 million and Nicaragua, with $8 million. 

Variation of regional imports 
Between the first quarter of 2017 and the same period in 2018 the value imported into the region registered a decrease of 14%, falling from $107 million to $92 million.

For the periods in question, purchases from Mexico decreased by 5%, falling from $32 million to $31 million.

Origin of imports 
In the first three months of the year, 33% of the value imported from Central America came from Mexico, 24% from China, 17% from the USA and 8% from Colombia.

Colombia is the country of origin of Central American imports that has grown the most in the first quarter of the last seven years, as in 2012 it represented 2% of the total value purchased, and in 2018 that proportion rose to 8%.

Observation:
The equipment in this analysis includes refrigerators and freezers for domestic and industrial use, cabinets, chiller cases, display cases and furniture for cold production, horizontal and vertical freezers such as ark or cupboard styles and other machines or devices for cold production. Air conditioning equipment is not included in the report's figures.
