The National Sleep Foundation ran the Sleep in America Survey 2008, and found that almost one third of working adults laboring over 30 hours a week tend to sleep frequently or become extremely drowsy while working.

A report published in July 2009 by the National Academy of Sciences showed that taking a nap in which the REM phase is reached improves the capacity of the brain to add useful information to creative problem solving, and several studies have shown it helps increase our memory.

During the REM phase, the big, voluntary muscles of the body are paralyzed, whilst brain activity is very intense. In the REM phase, people usually dream.

If you memorize a list of words and then take a nap, you will remember more of them than if you had not taken it. Even 6 minutes micro-naps (excluding the time required to fall asleep), can make the difference.
