Communication Radios: Business with Mexico up 36%

In the first nine months of 2020, the countries of the region imported communication radios for $39 million, and Central American purchases from Mexican companies increased by 36% compared to what was reported in the same period of 2019.

Nicaraguan Companies, main buyers
From January to September last year the main importing country in Central America was Nicaragua with $11 million, followed by Panama, with $9 million, Costa Rica, with $7 million, Guatemala, with $5 million, and El Salvador and Honduras with $5 million each.

Between January and September 2019 and the same period of 2020, Nicaraguan imports were the only ones that increased, reporting a variation of 15%.

For the periods in question, Panamanian purchases decreased 11%, Guatemalan 20%, Honduran 46%, Costa Rican 56% and Salvadoran 73%.

China and the USA, Main Suppliers
In the first nine months of 2020, 34% of the value imported from Central America came from China, 28% from the USA, 12% from Mexico, 3% from Hong Kong and 3% from Malaysia.

For the period in question in recent years China has been the market of origin of imports that has grown the most, since in 2012 it accounted for 10% of total purchases and in 2020 that proportion rose to 34%.

Regional Business Downward
Between January and September 2019 and the same period of 2020 the imported value of communication radios in the region decreased 37%, by falling from $62 million to $39 million.

In contrast to the behavior of purchases in general, for the periods under analysis, imports from Mexico increased 36%, going from $3.4 million to $4.6 million.

In the first three months of 2018, countries in the region bought $34 million worth of communication radios, and 76% were imported by companies in Honduras, Costa Rica and Panama.
