Quarantine: Total Closure in Guatemala

By presidential decree and in order to mitigate the outbreak of covid-19 in the country, from May 14 at 6 pm until May 18 at 5 am, there is total restriction of movement and closure of all commercial establishments.

The measures to restrict movement include the heavy transport of fuel and its derivatives, and the operation of the banking system is prevented, reported President Alejandro Giammattei on the night of May 14.

From the Agexport report:

From May 18 to 21, the hours of mobilization allowed will be from 5 to 17 hours, only if strictly necessary.

May operate the following:

a) Cantonal and Municipal markets may open on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 6:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
b) Supermarkets and convenience stores may open from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
c) Supermarkets are allowed to provide home delivery service at any time of the day or night in vehicles duly identified for that purpose.
d) Restaurant delivery service.
e) Home delivery of pharmacies. Social distance is maintained: all persons who must move must respect each other, the distance of at least one meter and fifty centimeters, avoiding unnecessary physical contact.

Quarantine: Total Closures Suspended

After the Guatemalan government carried out total closures of economic activity for three consecutive weekends in the context of the covid-19 outbreak, the president announced that there would be no total suspension of operations for the week of June 1-7.

Heavy Transport Circulation: Restrictions Eliminated

As a result of the health emergency in Guatemala, the Municipality of the country's capital agreed to remove restrictions on the movement of cargo until 12 April.

The temporary and exceptional authorization was issued to eliminate the restriction on the movement of heavy vehicles, at the following times: 5:00 to 9:00 a.m. and from 4:30 to 9:00 p.m., explained the municipality.

Guatemala: Curfew Extended to April 12

The government decided to extend for two more weeks the measures restricting freedom of movement, which includes the transit and movement of persons, crew, passengers and vehicles, between 4 pm and 5 am.

The restriction measures were decreed with the aim of containing the spread of covid-19, and the text detailing the government's provisions was published in the March 29 edition of Diario de Centro América.
