Purchases of Solid Soybean Waste Up 26%

Variation of regional imports 
Between the first three months of 2017 and the same period in 2018 the import value of solid waste from soybean oil in Central America registered an increase of 26%, rising from $103 million to $131 million in 2016. 

For the periods in question, the import volume rose by 28%, going from 257,000 tons to 330,000 tons. 

Imports by country 
From January to March 2018, the main buyer of solid waste from soybean oil in Central America was Guatemala, with $39 million, followed by Honduras, with $28 million, Panama, with $21 million, El Salvador, with $19 million, Nicaragua, with $14 million and Costa Rica, with $11 million. 

Price of imports 
Between January 2012 and March 2018, the average price of a kilo of imports of solid waste from soybean oil in countries in the region ranged between $0.62 and $0.37. However, from June 2014 to March 2018 the average price fell by 35%, falling from $0.62 to $0.41.  

Origin of imports 
From January 2017 to March 2018, virtually all regional imports came from the USA.

More corn imports from Central America

October 2018

Corn imports from the countries of the region reached $168 million between January and March of this year, 6% more than what was reported in the same period of 2017.

In 2016 Central America purchased 1.2 million tons of solid soybean waste, 10% more than in 2015, and the vast majority came from the US.
