Public Works: $645 Million Investment

Expansion of highways in Panama and El Salvador, construction of a border bridge in Guatemala and a cultural complex in Honduras are part of the public works to be developed in the region.

The interactive platform "Construction in Central America", compiled by the Trade Intelligence Unit at CentralAmericaData, includes an up to date list of public and private construction projects to be built in the coming months.

Details of some of the Environmental Impact Studies presented recently:

In Panama, the Ministry of Public Works presented the Environmental Impact Study (EIA) to expand a 33 kilometer stretch of the Pan American Highway between La Chorrera and Santa Cruz to six lanes. According to the document, nearly $313 million will be invested in the Project.

In El Salvador, Constructora Meco S.A. presented the EIA to design and build the widening of the CA04S Highway, specifically in the "Section III" that includes the 36th kilometer of the CA04S to the CA02W, in the department of La Libertad. It is estimated that about $270 million will be invested in this work.

In Guatemala, the General Direction of Roads presented the EIA to build the Binational Bridge that will border El Salvador, which will be in Ciudad Pedro de Alvarado, municipality of Moyuta, department of Jutiapa. Approximately $31 million will be invested in the project.

In Honduras, the Municipality of San Pedro Sula will build a cultural complex consisting of five buildings, which will house a technology center, spaces for cultural training centers, sports areas and other amenities. The project is expected to require a $30 million investment.

Construction Projects Planned in Guatemala

March 2018
