$249 Million Loan for Hydroelectric Dam

With a loan from BCIE, the construction of the Montegrande project will be completed, consisting of a multipurpose dam on the Yaque del Sur riverbed in the Dominican Republic.

The project consists in the construction of a multipurpose dam on the bed of the Yaque del Sur river, in order to control floods, provide water for drinking water, as well as water for agricultural irrigation and the development of aquaculture and tourism activities. 

From a statement issued by the CABEI:

Santo Domingo April 9, 2018.- The Executive Vice President of the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (BCIE), Attorney Alejandro Rodríguez Zamora and the Minister of Finance of the Dominican Republic, Donald Guerrero Ortiz, signed a credit agreement for US $249.6 million for the Multiple Project of the Montegrande Dam, Phase III. 

The project will allow for: 
• Increasing the country's water storage capacities.  
• Developing works for the control of water flows, prevention of floods and minimization of damages caused by natural phenomena.
 Increase in the amount of water for agricultural activities. Development of new irrigation areas with efficient use of water with the expansion of approximately 18,936 hectares.

$425 million Loan Approved to Build Water Works

The CABEI has approved a $425 million loan to finance a water supply project in three cantons in Guanacaste, Costa Rica.

The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (BCIE) reported that the funds will be used to finance construction of hydraulic, civil and mechanical structures to achieve the multiple purpose of providing water for irrigation, water for human consumption and future generation of energy.

$425 million Loan Request for Water Works

In Costa Rica, the Alvarado administration has asked the BCIE for a loan of $425 million to finance a water supply project in three cantons in Guanacaste.

The project consists in the construction of 300 new kilometers of water channels in the cantons of Santa Cruz, Nicoya and Carrillo, which will cover a potential area of 18,800 hectares. It also contemplates construction of the reservoir on the Piedras River and works on the dam to generate hydroelectric power.

Failure to comply with the conditions set by Italy is threatening the $32 million needed to finish off the Nacaome dam.

In March an Italian mission will be visiting Honduras to discuss the progress of the commitments agreed in order for a loan to be granted for the Nacaome dam.
