Construction Projects Planned in Central America

A water treatment system in Panama, office buildings in Costa Rica and a university building in Guatemala are some of the projects that are expected to be developed in the coming months in the region.

The interactive platform "Construction in Central America", compiled by the Business Intelligence Unit at CentralAmericaData, includes an up to date list of public and private construction projects for which environmental impact studies (EIA) were submitted to the respective institutions of each country in August 2017.

Details of some projects:

Instituto de Acueductos y Alcantarillados Nacionales de Panama submitted an EIA for the study, design, construction, operation and maintenance of a sewer and wastewater treatment system in the City of David and its surrounding areas, in the province of Chiriqui. According to the study, a total investment of $296 million is estimated for the works.

In Costa Rica, the Investment Fund for the Development of Public Infrastructure Projects submitted an EIA to build and operate, in Goicoechea, province of San José, an office building with 6 upper levels and a basement, with a total construction area of 24,624 m2. According to the document, the project is called "Edificio de Oficinas" and approximately $35.6 million will be invested in it.

The Foundation of the Valle de Guatemala University submitted an EIA to build a university building with 7 levels and 4 basements in area 15 of Guatemala City with capacity for 444 parking lots. The building will have a total construction area of 46,706 m 2 , and according to the study the project is called "Centro de Innovación y Tecnología Universidad del Valle de Guatemala" for which a global investment amount of $7.4 million is estimated.
