Printers: More Purchases from Japan in 2018

During 2018, Central American countries imported $342 million in printing machines and devices, and purchases from Japanese companies increased 26% compared to 2017.

Guatemala, Main Buyer
In 2018, the main importer of printing machines and devices in Central America was Guatemala with $82 million, followed by Costa Rica with $80 million, Panama with $69 million, El Salvador with $58 million, Honduras with $38 million and Nicaragua with $14 million.

Origin of Imports
During 2018, 49% of the value imported from Central America was from the U.S., 13% from China, 6% from Japan, 4% from Germany and 3% from Vietnam.
For the last seven years the US is the market of origin of imports that has been reduced the most, since in 2012 it represented 70% of the total value purchased, and in 2018 that proportion fell to 49%.

Variation in Regional Imports
Between 2017 and 2018, the total value imported into Central America decreased by 8%, from $373 million to $342 million.

In the case of purchases from Japanese companies, there was a growth from $16.4 million to $20.7 million for the years in question.
