Presentation of Plans for Roatán Development

The recent incidents have led the Secretary of Tourism to prepare a plan for the development of this tourist destination.

The Minister of Tursimo, Ricardo Martínez, said that among the tasks in the plan is the improvement of security on the island as well as an increase in the number of police.

Laprensahn.com published the Minister’s comments: "The plan seeks to implement a Labor Relations Office for complaints and solve children’s problems such as begging and delinquency. The plan also provides professional training programs for personnel working in the hotels on the island."

In February 88,000 Tourists to Land in Roatan

During this month a total of 37 cruise ships will dock in the ports of Roatan and Mahogany Bay, each which will be carrying between 2000 and 3000 tourists.

From the press release issued by the Honduran Tourism Institute of Honduras:

As occurred in January, February will be another busy month for tourism in Roatan, the Bay Islands with the arrival of more than 88,000 cruise ship passengers, on board 37 ships which will dock every day at the ports of Roatan and MahoganyBay, said authorities from the Secretariate and Honduran Tourism Institute.

Honduras: Pier for Cruise Ships Ready by September

With an investment of $70 million, the construction of the Carnival’s cruise terminal on the island of Roatán is 80% complete.

The developers of Carnival’s pier hope to finish the Project by September.

According to Laprensahn.com, “The Project–which covers 75,000 square feet, includes a commercial area being built to quality specifications that enable it to withstand earthquakes and hurricanes-was visited by international representatives of the cruise industry that have been on the island since the weekend with the purpose of attending the meeting of the Federation of Cruise Lines of the Caribbean and Florida, FCCA.

Port construction continues in Roatan

The first phase of the remodeling ended with the construction of three buildings for first-class commercial establishments.

Elheraldo.com reports: "Despite the global financial crisis, this company is betting on the second phase of the Puerto de Cruceros renovation project which involves the investment of an additional $30 million.

Flights to the island of Roatán, Honduras reduced

Fewer flights will be going to the Caribbean island of Roatán, Honduras in the future.

Taca Airlines will suspend two flights from Houst from Houston and Miami, Delta will stop flying from Atlanta, and Continental is suspending three flights from Houston.
As a result, there will be just two foreign flights to the island - a Continental flight form Houston and a Blue Panorama flight from Milan.
