Port Concession: Pre-Qualification is Underway

The Autonomous Executive Port Commission of El Salvador is calling for companies to prequalify in order to participate in the bidding process for the concession of Port la Unión.

PREQUALIFICATION FOR PARTICIPATION IN THE PROCESS CEPA PREC-1/2013 SPECIALIZED MULTIPURPOSE CONTAINER PORT TERMINAL, PUERTO DE LA UNIÓN, CENTRAL AMERICA.

Purpose of the process:

- To preselect participants who meet the requirements of these Rules in order to be eligible to participate in the bidding process which CEPA will convene in due course.

- To achieve the greatest participation of interested companies, with qualified experience in the operation of port terminals and who have the financial capacity required to carry out the investments in equipment for the port.

- To define the guidelines under which the Participants will prepare their pre qualification documents and the method of evaluation.

The deadline for submission of bids is September 17, 2013.

Now May 28th is the "confirmed" date for the submission of bids in the tender for the Central American Port of La Union.

According to the Executive Port Commission (CEPA), resolutions have been given to 63 queries put forward by four companies which have pre-qualified to participate in the tender, and because of this there will be no further changes to the date for receiving bids.

The Autonomous Executive Port Commission is investigating extending by one month the deadline for receiving documents from companies interested in operating the port of La Union in El Salvador.

"We have a good feeling because there are four or five companies, some of the largest in the world, who have requested an extension of the deadline for submission of documents," said the manager of concessions at the Autonomous Executive Port Commission (CEPA), Carlos Federico Paredes.

Puerto de La Union: So Far Only Words

The Autonomous Executive Port Commission of El Salvador put to tender the administration of the port of La Union in mid-2013.

An article in Laprensagrafica.com quotes the chairman of the Autonomous Executive Port Commission of El Salvador (CEPA), Alberto Arene, who says that "The goal of CEPA is to grant concession the port of La Union, within a year, that is to say, in September 2013 ".

The Autonomous Executive Port Commission (CEPA) is working on the conditions for the tender for the concession of the port terminal.

A group of professionals are already working on the tender documents and a draft contract which should be completed late this year or early in 2012, said Enrique Cordova, president of CEPA.
