Preparations to Construct Third Transmission Line in Panama

On February 26 the contractor Odebrecht will start construction and will have a timeframe of 920 days to complete the work.

Starting February 26, the construction company Norberto Odebrecht will have 920 days to carry out the works for the third power transmission line. Empresa de Transmisión Eléctrica S.A. gave the order to proceed on Wednesday.

"The project includes the construction of line extensions and yards at 230 KV in the substations in Veladero, Llano Sanchez, Chorrera and Panama."

"This project consists of a double circuit line with a capacity of 400 MVA per circuit, which seeks to increase the power transmission capacity of the system (total increase of 800 MVA) and increase the reliability of the system."

"Norberto Odebrecht won the tender for the construction of the third power transmission line in the amount of $233.8 million in August 2013."

The contract may be modified to increase line capacity in order to meet growing energy demand.  

The third transmission line was awarded to Odebrecht for $238 million and should start this year, but the contract is under review. The Comptroller General's Office is considering increasing the generation capacity of the line using the same materials as originally contemplated for its construction, although it is not known if this would involve higher costs.

With a price of $234 million, the company Norberto Odebrecht has been awarded the design and construction of a third power transmission line.

The resolution for the award by the Empresa de Transmisión Eléctrica (Etesa) includes the acceptance of the proposed plan for long-term financing by the Brazilian construction company Norberto Odebrecht, however, it does not detail what the conditions are.

With a price tag of $234 million, Odebrecht obtained the highest score in the tender for the design and construction of a third power transmission line.

Empresa de Transmisión Eléctrica S.A. (ETESA) this morning presented the results of the total scores for the technical and economic evaluations of bids submitted by Consorcio Interconexión Panamá and Constructora Norberto Odebrecht for the design, supply, construction and financing of a third transmission line Veladero - Llano Sanchez - La Chorrera - Panama, in 230kV and adaptation to the associated substations. Meeting the deadlines set out in the Public Procurement Act 22, the company with the highest score in the bid was Constructora Norberto Obredecht.
