Polemic project for advertising regulation in Panama

The project applies to companies and individuals, and forces them to have a marketing and publicity degree, or related degree, or to have carry out this type of activity at least 10 years before the law came into effect.

Law 318 creates a board of directors and additional legal dispositions to regulate advertising activities and gives the board the authority to give out warnings in writing and to even permanently suspend advertising license. It also imposes fines of up to $10,000, depending on the infraction.

Guatemala: Credit Card Law Suspended

April 2016

The Superior Court has ordered the temporary cancellation due to lack of a ruling from the Bank of Guatemala, and the fact that Congress gave approval without having a majority, as stipulated by law.

The Constitutional Court (CC) has provisionally suspended the Credit Card Act, which came into force on March 8.

Panama: New Rules for Outdoor Advertising

September 2015

From January 2016 new regulations of the Mayoral Office of Panama will be in effect, imposing fines on companies that exceed the maximum number of ads permitted.

The new rules governing in January 2016 prohibit placing posters or any announcements at more than 11 points, including churches, airports, national monuments, sites declared heritage of the Republic, sites declared as protected areas or city gardens.

Panama: Fines for Outdoor Advertising on Constructions

July 2013

The Panamanian Mayor will punish with fines up to $10,000 those who place outdoor advertising on structures or vacant lots.

From a press release from the Mayor of Panama:

The Mayor of Panama (@ panamamunicipio), is prohibiting outdoor advertising placement on perimeter fences and vacant buildings, while establishing that the holders or legal representatives of the products being advertised and the owners of the building project are to be jointly and severally liable.
